Yahoo Still Competes with Bing Despite Microsoft Deal

25 August 2009

Yahoo Inc. revamps their search engine despite the recent Microsoft deal showing signs of competing against Bing, Microsoft’s latest search innovation that was reported to grab a fraction of the search market share last month.

“We are Yahoo and that will continue…We collaborate on the back-end but we are competitors on the front-end,” Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president of Yahoo said.

Last July, Microsoft and Yahoo signed a 10-year deal under which search on Yahoo’s websites will be generated by Microsoft’s new Bing search engine.

There was also a recent announcement about Yahoo’s newest mail interface that has a social networking feature and a new face on their messenger.

What ! How can they collaborate on the back and compete on the front ? What a complete nonsensical thing to say. Yahoo has been making a loss for years.. the company is only still going just because so many people rely on it, and like banks, goverments maybe can’t afford for their to be such a huge provider taken away..

Yahoo are advertising quite a lot in the UK so they are still very much alive.

I thought they where going to merge properly and just become one to try and compete with Google. If they stay separate then they will never take the crown from Google. If they join though, they could be in with a chance!
