With this feature, a youtube user or viewer can request caption withing a single click of a button while video owners can download the automated captions and improve upon them.

Google engineer Mike Cohen said: “I have been working on speech technology for 25 years. There have been steady improvements and this is the culmination of lots of work over years and years.

“We have had to work on a wide variety of problems like accent variation, background noise, the variation in language, in pronunciation.”

This new feature will surely benefit people with hearing problems.

This move reflects Google’s efforts to ramp up YouTube which they bought for $1.65 billion in 2006 to attract more advertising dollars.

YouTube also announced deals with 11 other partners including the Anime Network, Shout Factory, Telenext Media, Documentary Channel and First Look Studios, bolstering its licensed content offerings from dozens of movies and hundreds of TV episodes to 700 movies and thousands of TV episodes.

While checking for footages in the current Gaza crisis in youtube, I came across this channel earlier which is said to be owned by the Israel Defense Force Spokesperson Unit. The channel shows video clips with updates on Israel ground force attacks,  Hamas offices, weapon storage hit by the air strikes and videos of Israel humanitarian aid bound for Gaza which looks like an answer to the accusations that they are not allowing any humanitarian aid going inside Gaza.

I have also seen the twitter account of the Israel consulate providing an online press conference on what’s happening in Gaza. It was Consul David Saranga of Israel that concludes, “the point of this was to hear what ppl say and to share our point of view with fellow twitters.”

And friendster isn’t as friendly as we thought coz you have to get an invitation code to get inside? Weird but true during their beta days…

Anyway, those were the good old days. Internet is now part of our daily lives and I’m very thankful that it’s getting better leaving us with fruitful contents as days pass by.
