January 31, 2009 Google Bug
31 January 2009
A few minutes earlier, while searching google, I found something unusual. All sites in their result pages shows a warning that says “this site may harm your computer” which is obviously not normal.
I also thought that it was just me but after logging into seo.ph, I found this thread which also talks about the same event. Looks like Google is having some problems at the moment.
I tried searching for several other keywords but the result still shows the same warning. Here’s the screenshot (notice that they even mark their own site as a site that may harm your computer):

I too faced the same problem yesterday, and thought I had bug on my system…I was also not able to view google help pages.
I cleared my cookies, then everything was back to normal…I think it must have been a coincidence.
I was also using the internet when the problem happened, my initial reaction was that I had a virus or spyware on my machine, so started a scan for both. Turned out it was just down to human error, but I wonder how many people panicked when it happened, must have been a big surge of people downloading anti virus/spyware software.
Rumors say this might have been one big marketing stunt from Google. People around the globe heard about the error in just under a day time. Besides, I would think ’some people’ at Google might have received ’some messages’ that their engine was showing odd behavior..
wow. di ko alam yan kuya ah..
tsk. human error. kaloka.
out of topic:
nice, bagong theme. ^_^
I don’t know if Google doing this is a blessing or a curse. I’ve had it creep up a few times when I’ve been browsing the web. Annoying that they make the “ignore this warning” (or whatever it says) a tiny little link but the “Get me out of here!!!” link is huge.
Yeah that was a glitch that happened and they fixed it with a few hrs of it occurring.
wow this is really alarming, haha what ever happened in there it has been fixed and i think its really not a major bug, just a minor faulty script i guess
I have seen the same thing a couple of times now on google. I also seen google show page saying that the search i made does not look like human and i need to add code to continue. They have been updating google and i think we will see more strange search results after bing came out.
Google has that error message when you visit harmful websites. When it indexes a site, it finds information or scripts which could harm your PC, so therefore they block it.
Happened to a couple of my sites too, but they were actually infected from a virus. Seems the themes i was using had some encrypted code that black hat marketers were using to stuff malware and cookie stuff to my traffic!! not cool man, not cool! Once activated it ripped through my whole hosting account and too ages to clean up
Some time when Google changes their algorithms you will see this kind of errors. Few months ago Google have listed near every site in the result page their Page Rank and the number of the inbound links.
Anyway, strange error.
I notice things like this during searches sometimes and don’t worry too much. I guess a site as big as Google will have some issues sometimes and as they aren’t really doing any harm I’m happy to just move on. I can understand how it might panic some and have them wondering if the problem is with their computer. I don’t think there is any worse feeling than thinking you might have been infected with something that might cause damage. Let’s hope errors are kept to a minimum, and nothing damaging ever arises.
There is so much going on every day- so many changes all the time. It is impossible these days to pay too much attention to these error messages.
