How To Set-up Adsense for Domains in Godaddy
Here’s a quick guide on how to set-up adsense for domains in one of the most popular domain registrar in the world – Godaddy.
Create a CNAME Record
- Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com.
- Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. You will then be directed to the Manage Domains page.
- Select the domain name that you’d like to use with AdSense for domains.
- Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records in the box entitled Total DNS Control.
Note: Adding entries to the Manage Subdomains section will not create a CNAME record. - Select Add New CNAME Record. If you have recently created a CNAME record for the address, click Edit next to the existing CNAME record.
- Step 1: In the ‘Host Name’ field, enter ‘www’
Step 2: In the ‘Points to Host Name’ field, enter pub-xxxxxxxxx.afd.ghs.google.com (where pub-xxxxxxxxx is your unique ID listed on the AdSense setup page)
Step 3: Leave the default value in the ‘TTL’ field. - Click OK, and then click OK again. If you’re editing an existing CNAME record, click OK.
Now that the CNAME Record is pointing to Google, it’s time to set-up an A Record. Follow the tutorial below:
Create an A Record
- Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com.
- Open the Domains tab and choose My Domain Names. You’ll be directed to the Manage Domains page.
- Select the domain name that you’d like to use with AdSense for domains.
- Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records in the box entitled Total DNS Control.
- Select Add New A Record. If an A record already exists for the address, click Edit next to the existing A record.
- Step 1: In the ‘Host Name’ field, enter the @ character.
Step 2: In the ‘Points To Ip Address’ field, enter the IP address 216.239.32.21
Step 3: Leave the default value in the ‘TTL’ field. - Click OK, and then click OK again. If you’re editing an existing A record, click OK.
- Follow steps 5 through 6, adding three more records using the IP addresses 216.239.34.21, 216.239.36.21, and 216.239.38.21
That’s all folks. You’re domain is now ready to make money with Adsense for Domains.

Will it damage a domain if you add adsence while you are waiting for a site to be constructed as it may be 3-4 months before the site becomes live? Or would you steer clear untill the site becomes live and just add a holding page.

I don’t think it would do any damage, hence, it will be better to monetize your domain instead of doing nothing while waiting for the site to go live.

I have a friend who has several domains doing nothing on GoDaddy right now so I will send her a link to your post. This way she can at least get some Adsense revenue from the url.

I think you would be better off building simple web page with keywords and some content with adsense on it. Not sure how well domain parked with just ads will do.

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I have been considering switching hosts on a couple of older sites and of course GoDaddy is one of my options I’m considering (hey what can I do? They were on the Superbowl!).

I still wonder why people just do not make a simple website with some affiliate products and adsense. You could make more money if you find right product and make site with niche keywords.

Setting up Adsense “domains” is an OK idea but not the best. I always set up a simple keyword rich website that targets long tail keywords. 10 times out of 10 you are going to make more money with a website than without one.

I still prefer parking companies, because I found that they pay more than adsense per click.

I just heard about doing this and was curious how to do it. This is definitely useful for the domains I don;t use to possibly get some passive income from them. Thanks for sharing

How does this work? Do you earn the entire amount you get from the click or do you share it with Godaddy?

Can’t get this to work?!? I can create the multiple A names with no problem.
However, when I try to add a NEW or even EDIT the existing CNAME/Host/Alias, I get an error that reads “Please enter a valid host name for the ‘Points to field.’
I’m entering www in the Alias Name box and pub-xxxxxxxxx.afd.ghs.google.com (with, of course, my ID instead of the xxxx). But no luck – very frustrating.
Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

So what do you think about Adsense’s new smartpricing policy? I’ve heard a lot of publishers complaining about that one lately…
